Description

Open Digital Libraries are web-based information systems that are composed of components communicating via high-level application protocols, designed as extensions of the Open Archives Initiative's Protocol for Metadata Harvesting. it is an attempt to design a framework for building DLs using simple stock components. it is also an attempt to reinsert software engineering into the field of Digital Libraries, while retaining the philsophies of simplicity and modularity that led to the successes of the Internet.

i completed my PhD dissertation in December 2002 and it is published as an Electronic Dissertation by Virginia Tech.
